Mojeek has crawled the web on its own machines since 2004, from the UK. No account, no ad profile, no retargeting pixel. The results page looks plain because it is not trying to become a portal.
An independent crawler is smaller. News, images, and very new pages are weaker than Google. That is the trade, not a bug they forgot. Mojeek is useful when you want a second opinion that was not trained on the same SEO tricks, and when you would rather a small British company see the query than an ad network.
Use it beside a bigger engine, not as the only one, until you know which queries it answers well. mojeek.com
Mojeek’s own crawl is the reason a personal site can appear at all. It is also why shopping and news feel empty. Keep it as the second window. If you only open it when Google failed you, you are using it correctly. Do not expect image search to behave like a commercial engine.
