Brave Search keeps its own web index. It is one of the few engines that does not rent Google or Bing for the main results. There is no account and no ad profile built from your queries. Goggles are rule files that re-rank what you see, so you can demote content farms or lift sites you trust.
The index is younger and smaller than Google’s, especially outside English and on breaking news. Brave the company also makes the Brave browser, which has its own ad system. That is a separate product. The search engine’s promise is about the queries, not about every other thing Brave ships. JavaScript is optional on the results page, which matters on a locked-down browser.
Use it as a daily engine if you can live with thinner niche results. Do not assume the browser and the search box have the same privacy story. search.brave.com
Goggles are text files, not a vibe. You can subscribe to someone else’s re-rank rules or write your own. That is the feature worth learning. The independent index will miss pages Google has known for a decade. When a query returns thin, open it somewhere else instead of deciding the web does not contain the page.
