Hue bulbs are Zigbee devices with excellent colour, and the Hue Bridge runs routines locally, so the lights keep working when the internet is down. You can also pair the bulbs straight to your own Zigbee coordinator, such as Zigbee2MQTT, and leave the Hue Bridge, app and cloud out entirely.
Signify, which owns the brand, says on its website that you will soon need a Philips Hue account. The bulbs are expensive. Buy them for the light quality and run them from your own hub.
