Transmission is a small open-source BitTorrent client, common on macOS and Linux desktops, with a daemon for a server that has no screen. It does less than qBittorrent on purpose. Remote control exists for a headless box.
In 2016 the project’s Mac website was compromised and served a malicious installer. That was the download page, not a permanent hole in the protocol, and it was a reminder to check signatures. The app is still the quiet one. Your IP is still visible to peers unless the client is bound to a VPN. Fewer buttons means fewer ways to shoot yourself, not a privacy mode you forgot to configure.
Use it when you want the client to disappear. transmissionbt.com
Transmission’s daemon is useful on a home server and invisible until it is the process seeding something you forgot. Check the list. Bind it to the VPN the same way as any other client. After the 2016 website compromise, the lesson is to download from the official site and prefer a signed build or a distribution package. The app being simple does not review your torrents for you.
