Vaultwarden – Your Own Bitwarden Server

Vaultwarden is a community rewrite of the Bitwarden server, in Rust, small enough for a tiny computer at home. The official Bitwarden phone and browser apps talk to it. Your vault stays on hardware you can unplug.

It is not Bitwarden’s server and it is not covered by Bitwarden’s audits. Features land when the volunteer implementation catches up. You must back it up yourself. A Raspberry Pi in a cupboard with no copy of the data is how people lose every login they own. Put it behind HTTPS. Do not expose the admin token to the internet and walk away.

Use it if you already like Bitwarden and you will actually keep backups. github.com/dani-garcia/vaultwarden

Vaultwarden should sit behind HTTPS with a real certificate, on a machine that is backed up nightly, with the admin panel not left open. Export a copy of the vault on a schedule that does not depend on the Pi still booting. Update it when Bitwarden apps start to complain. Unofficial means a breaking change can arrive on a Tuesday. Do not run it on a port forwarded to the whole internet with a default password.
