Proton Pass – The Newcomer With Pedigree

Proton Pass is the password manager from Proton. Clients are open source. The vault is end-to-end encrypted. Hide-my-email aliases are built in, so a signup form gets a forwarding address instead of your real one. The free tier is enough to try it. Extra aliases and some comfort features sit on paid plans or the Proton bundle.

It is younger than Bitwarden. Import works, and a few edge cases from older managers still feel unfinished. Using Pass plus Mail plus VPN means one Swiss company holds more of your life. That can be what you want. It is also a bigger blast radius than a password file on your disk.

Use it if you are already in Proton and you want aliases. proton.me/pass

Proton Pass aliases are the feature that pays for itself if you sign up for junk sites. Create the alias in the app, not a plus-address on your real domain, if the point is to be able to cut one sender off. The free tier will hold a normal life. Pay when you want more aliases or the rest of Proton. A Pass account linked to a Proton address means that address is the key to the vault. Guard it like the master password.
