When a drawing or a decision needs fairness instead of a formula, dice remain the auditable random number generator: roll, look up, repeat. The Diceware method doubles as the fairest way to pick from a list without a computer in the loop.
It is slow for big lists and pointless if you trust software randomness. For small, verifiable fairness, nothing beats bones.
