Ubuntu Touch is a Linux phone system maintained by the UBports Foundation. Google and Apple are not in the stack. The app store is its own. Fairphone, Volla, and Pine phones are the hardware people actually boot.
Banking apps, ride shares, and anything that expects Google Play will not run. The catalog is small. Cameras and modems depend on the port for that device, and some ports are rough. It is a good second phone or a minimalist daily phone if your life fits in a browser and a handful of native apps. It is a bad surprise if you need your bank tomorrow.
Use it when you have already accepted the missing apps. ubports.com
Check the Ubuntu Touch device page for the word stable, not just a bootable image. Cameras and mobile data vary by port. Use it for calls, maps in the browser, and notes if those apps exist for your device. Keep the bank on a different phone. Updates come from UBports, not from the phone maker, which is the point and also why a dead port stays dead.
