OpenStreetMap is the map built by volunteers: every street, path and shop contributed and maintained by people, licensed for anyone to use. It is the data source underneath most of the private-friendly mapping tools on this site.
As a raw website it is a map and an editor, not a turn-by-turn navigator, and coverage depth varies by region. Contribute a few edits and you will never see maps the same way.
