LocalSend moves files between phones and computers on the same local network. No account, no size cap from a company, no cloud. It is open source and runs on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. Nearby devices see each other and you accept the transfer.
It is not a way to send a file across the internet. Guest Wi-Fi and office firewalls often block device-to-device traffic. A phone hotspot fixes that because both devices are then on a network you control. Anyone on that same network can see that a LocalSend device exists. Do not accept a transfer you did not expect.
Use it instead of emailing a folder to yourself in the same room. localsend.org
On LocalSend, set a device name you can recognize and require a confirmation tap. A busy cafe network will show strangers. Do not auto-accept. For a laptop and a phone at home, it replaces USB sticks. It will not pass a hotel’s client isolation. If the two devices cannot see each other, make a hotspot on one and join it from the other. That is the whole troubleshooting guide.
