NanaZip is an open-source fork of 7-Zip aimed at current Windows, by the M2Team developer Kenji Mouri. It fixes the Windows 11 right-click menu, adds a dark theme, and can be installed as a packaged app from the Store or from GitHub. Compression and AES-256 sit on the 7-Zip engine, not a new format.
It is a Windows convenience layer. Linux and macOS are not the target. A small team means the menu integration can lag a Windows update. The files you create should still open in ordinary 7-Zip. If they do not, you picked an exotic option. Stay on 7z with a passphrase if the archive has to travel.
Use it on Windows 11 if 7-Zip’s context menu annoys you. github.com/M2Team/NanaZip
NanaZip from the Store updates through the Store. The GitHub release is there if you avoid the Store. Either one should still open archives from classic 7-Zip. Do not install both and then wonder which context menu won. Encrypted 7z files behave the same. The dark theme does not change the cryptography. It changes whether you can see the menu on Windows 11.
