NextDNS is a hosted resolver you configure like a firewall. Block ads, trackers, and malware lists per device. Turn the analytics off and it stops drawing you a graph of your own house. It speaks DNS over HTTPS and DNS over TLS, and it gives you a hostname to paste into Android Private DNS or an Apple configuration profile.
The company is in the United States. The free tier caps how many queries you get each month. A busy household hits that cap. Logging is off unless you enable it, which is the correct default, and you should check that the toggle is still off after you make an account. A profile linked to your email is more identity than Quad9 ever asks for.
Use it when you want filters Quad9 will not give you. Do not turn the logs on “just to see.” nextdns.io
Create the NextDNS profile on a computer, then paste the hostname into phones. Do not invent block lists from a Reddit comment on day one. Start with the default security list, logs off, and add ads only after a normal day still works. The query count in the dashboard is how you see the free cap coming. Pay or switch before lookups start failing in the background.
